Protests held in Kashmir over rape of child

Protesters took to the streets of Jammu and Kashmir over the alleged rape of a three-year-old girl.

The suspected crime took place in Sumbal, in the north of the region and the accused was arrested on the day of the crime - on 8 May.

However, tensions over the incident have continued to rise – with authorities claiming 54 people were injured in street protests.

Local government has said an investigation into the alleged rape has been fast tracked and “will be concluded very soon.’’
