Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi filed his nomination for the country’s general election amid large fanfare.
Modi is contesting the Varanasi constituency in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh.
He travelled to the local district office in a procession of cars that stretched for several kilometres.
The main opposition Congress party named Ajay Rai to take on Modi for the seat, ending speculation that Priyanka Gandhi would go up against the prime minister.
