India’s Election Commission has demanded an explanation from a state minister following remarks made about the military during a political rally.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, a close ally of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was speaking at an event for the ruling BJP.
He referred to India's army as "Narendra Modi's army" – which could be deemed a violation of the election code.
The Election Commission has previously issued an advisory that political parties and leaders must "exercise great caution while making any reference to the armed forces in their political campaigns".
