At least 40 killed by landslides in Bangladesh

At least 40 people have died after heavy monsoon rains caused landslides in southeast Bangladesh.

Officials have said that three army soldiers are among the dead and they believe the death toll may rise.

Following some of the heaviest rains in recent years, dozens more have been reported missing in the Chittagong Hills.

Power lines and telecommunications links have been cut off in some areas, with rescue operations also hampered by the continuing bad weather.

Last month around one million people were evacuated and at least eight people were killed after Cyclone Mora smashed into Bangladesh's southeast region.
