Yorkshire coaches recognised as winners at UK Coaching Awards

    Leeds-based coach Malcolm Brown MBE, has been announced as the joint-winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2017 UK Coaching Awards, whilst Yorkshire running group Fitmums & Friends has won in the Coaching Intervention of the Year, Supported by Sport England, category.

    A total of five coaches from Yorkshire were named as finalists for the 2017 UK Coaching Awards.

    The showpiece annual event is seen as one of the most prestigious within the coaching community and was held at The Honourable Artillery Company, City of London on Thursday 30 November.

    Former UK Athletics Head Coach, Malcolm Brown, has over 35 years’ worth of coaching experience, across a largely voluntary based career, which has seen him work with the leading athletes in the world. Notable former roles include head coach for UK Athletics at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, coaching at Leeds Metropolitan University and as British Triathlon’s Olympic performance manager at London 2012.

    Triathlon has been a key part of Brown’s life in recent years, coaching Britain’s leading athletes including Alistair and Jonny Brownlee, Vicky Holland and Non Stanford. Brown is also the founder and director of triathlon at the Leeds Triathlon Centre and was an integral force in establishing The Brownlee Centre. He has coached Leeds-based triathletes to an unprecedented five Olympic medals and 89 multiple World, Commonwealth and European medals (including 37 gold).
