Vegan football team win promotion to the English Football League

Forest Green Rovers have won promotion to the English Football League for the first time.

Known as the ‘little club on the hill', the club beat Tranmere 3-1 at Wembley to secure league football for next season.

The eccentric club owner, Dale Vince, who made his money selling power from renewable energy sources to the National Grid, has adopted a vegan ethic at the club.

Red meat is barred from the stadium and a solar-powered lawnmower keeps the pitch in shape.

With the Gloucestershire team’s results this season, it can be expected that more non-League teams will be following a plant-based diet for the next campaign.
