Sam Warburton will miss a large part of his season as he receives surgery for an ongoing neck injury.
It is expected the Cardiff Blues flanker will be out for four months.
The 28-year-old, who captained the British and Irish Lions in their drawn Test series with New Zealand this summer, aggravated the injury in training this week.
He will miss key Pro14 and Challenge Cup dates for the Blues as well as all four of Wales' autumn Tests.
