Iceland become smallest nation to make World Cup finals

    Iceland have become the smallest nation to successfully qualify for the World Cup finals.

    They beat Kosovo 2-0 to win their qualifying group for Russia 2018, with Everton's Gylfi Sigurdsson and Burnley's Johann Gudmundsson netting the goals on Monday evening, 9 October.

    The nation, with a population of only 335,000, knocked out England in in the last 16 of the European Championship 2016, were they finished as quarter-finalists.

    Iceland have taken the honour from Trinidad and Tobago, which boasts a relatively whopping 1.37m citizens.
