French referee receives ban for kicking player

A French referee has been banned for six months in connection with an incident in which he kicked a player.

Tony Chapron hit the ground when his heels were clipped - apparently accidently - by Nantes' Diego Carlos during a league match last month.

Chapron, 45, then kicked out at the player and sent him off the field with a second yellow.

He was immediately suspended after the game. Half of the ban has been suspended.

Prior to the incident he had announced that this would be his final season as a referee.
