England captain Joe Root grateful for presence of predecessor, Alastair Cook

England’s new captain, Joe Root, has stated he is happy for his predecessor Alastair Cook to remain in the side.

Root, 26, said: "I think Cook will be great. He's done a fantastic job and I've inherited a side that's so settled - he has to take a lot of credit for that. I've got fantastic senior players. Alastair is a great person to go to - he will let me get on with it and do it my own way.”

Root, also playing domestically for Yorkshire, took over from Cook in February, who retired as captain after a record 59 games at the helm.
