Champions will lead England’s golf challenge

    Champions Rosie Belsham, Lily May Humphreys and Callum Macfie will spearhead the England challenge in the German Boys’ and Girls’ Open at St Leon-Rot, from 30 May to 1 June.

    They are among eight players who will represent England in the 54-hole event. The line-up is completed by Charlotte Heath, Mimi Rhodes, Enrique Dimayuga, Matthew Freeman and Remy Miller.

    The players:

    Rosie Belsham, 17, (Whitley Bay, Northumberland), won the girls’ title at the recent Fairhaven Trophies with a record-setting total of 23-under par. It was the lowest gross ever recorded in the competition, beating the best boys’ score by four and the best girls’ by 11.

    Charlotte Heath, 17, (Huddersfield, Yorkshire) was fourth in the recent Welsh Open Stroke Play. She won the Sir Henry Cooper Junior Masters last year and was in England’s winning team at the Girls’ Home Internationals

    Lily May Humphreys, 17, (Stoke by Nayland, Essex) has just won the Irish and Welsh Open Stroke Play titles over consecutive weekends, adding them to previous wins in English, Scottish, British and European championships. She made her Curtis Cup debut aged 16.

    Mimi Rhodes, 17, (Burnham & Berrow, Somerset) helped England win the 2018 Girls’ Home Internationals and represented England in the World Juniors Girls’ Championship. She was runner-up in the French Women’s Stroke Play and fifth in the Annika Invitational Europe.

    Enrique Dimayuga, 17, (Walton Heath, Surrey) tied fourth in the stroke play stages of the French Boys’ championship and reached the last 16 in the match play. He was 10th in the Hampshire Salver.

    Matthew Freeman, 18, (Notts Golf Club, Nottinghamshire) was sixth in the 2019 Peter McEvoy Trophy and was seventh in last year’s English U18 Carris Trophy. He was in England’s winning team at the Boys’ Home Internationals.

    Callum Macfie, 18, (Lindrick, Yorkshire) won the boys’ title at the Fairhaven Trophies on seven-under. He’s a past winner of the North of England U16 title, represented England at U16 level and has twice helped Yorkshire to win the English Boys’ County Finals.

    Remy Miller, 17, (Prestbury, Cheshire) tied fifth in the recent Fairhaven Trophies and had top 15 finishes in the Peter McEvoy Trophy and the Scottish Boys’ Championship. He has represented England at U16 level, helping to defeat Scotland at Montrose.
