Galtres Lodge, a boutique hotel set in the heart of York, is celebrating after being shortlisted for one of the hospitality industry’s most sought-after awards.
Recognising its commitment to high and consistent standards of customer service, the hotel's Forest restaurant has been shortlisted in the category of 'Hotel Restaurant Team of the Year' in the prestigious Hotel Cateys 2021.
Organised by The Caterer magazine, the Hotel Cateys seek to recognise the most successful hotel operators in the UK and their employees. The awards are the hotel industry’s only independent benchmark of operational excellence, with nominees judged by a panel of their peers and industry experts.
As one of only three shortlisted finalists, this is a fantastic achievement for the small team, which has worked tirelessly to ensure their business delivers an exceptional guest experience post-COVID-19.
Following an extensive lockdown refurbishment, Galtres Lodge’s Forest restaurant has become a must-visit destination in York - even reporting a substantial profit since its reopening. With a recently reimagined menu designed by the high-profile consultant chef, Stephanie Moon, Forest has consistently delivered food, drink and service of the highest standard.
Offerings currently include a mix of British classics as well as some more exclusive fine dining options, with each dish prepared using fresh, locally sourced produce to support other small businesses based in York.
In addition to sparkling refurbishments and menu upgrades, Forest has focussed on team development through mentoring, training and promotions during the pandemic - and welcomed an experienced general manager, David Macdonald, to the team. Providing close guidance to the restaurant team, David’s influence has been integral to helping Forest achieve and maintain high levels of customer service and satisfaction, leading to its eventual recognition as a Hotel Cateys 2021 contender.
Discussing the shortlisting, Rebecca Hill, owner of Galtres Lodge, said: "Despite a challenging year for the hospitality sector as a whole, our team at Forest has pulled together to provide exceptional levels of customer service and an enjoyable experience for our guests. We are so proud of our team and delighted to have our hard work and efforts recognised by one of the most prestigious awarding bodies for the hospitality industry in the UK."
Other nominees in the same category include The Bridge and the Vicarage in Cheshire and Goodwood: Farmer, Butcher, Chef in Chichester, with the overall winners set to be announced on 19 November 2021 at London’s Park Plaza Westminster Bridge hotel.
