A Volkswagen has been seized after police say its driver was seen weaving through traffic and accelerating aggressively in Bradford city centre.
Officers from West Yorkshire Police's Bradford City neighbourhood policing team spotted the vehicle being driven erratically on Senior Way.
After stopping the Volkswagen, police said the driver explained that he was attempting to regenerate the car's diesel particulate filter, commonly known as a DPF.
A DPF forms part of a diesel vehicle's exhaust system and captures soot, with regeneration used to clear accumulated material from the filter.
But officers said the busy city centre road was “not the place or the time” to carry out the process.
In a post on the Operation Steerside Facebook page, police said: “Whilst patrolling we spotted this Volkswagen on Senior Way weaving in & out of traffic and aggressively accelerating.”
They added that after being stopped, the driver said he was simply trying to regenerate the diesel particulate filter.
Police subsequently seized the vehicle under Section 59 of the Police Reform Act and reported the driver.
