Van Seized In Fly-Tipping Investigation

Officers from Bradford Council have seized a Ford Transit van as part of an investigation into multiple fly-tipping offences.

Incidents of fly-tipping in Bowling, Wilsden and Heaton were linked to the same Ford Transit van which was later spotted on a grass verge in Lynfield Drive, Heaton.

Local enquiries failed to find anyone willing to identify themselves as the owner of the van so with the help of the police and a tow truck, the vehicle was seized.

The van was found to contain a load of waste which could have been intended for another fly-tip.

The van has no registered keeper and is not insured so it was not possible to trace the owner, but it will be kept for 15 days to give a chance for the owner to come forward. The registration number is PE05 GZH.

If the owner does not come forward, the van can be destroyed or sold. Using powers which came into force in 2015 the Council can seize vehicles if there is evidence that it has been used for fly-tipping and there is a suspicion that it may be used again.

Not only was the van caught on camera, a man was also recorded with the vehicle. Bradford Council would like to speak to the man on the video. If anyone has any information about his identity, they are asked to get in touch with Bradford Council.

Since they were introduced in October, Bradford Council has issued nine Penalty Charge Notices to people caught fly-tipping.

Councillor Sarah Ferriby, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Environment, Sport and Culture, said: “Fly-tipping is a dreadful blight on our community and we are determined to try our best to catch the criminals who try to get away with dumping rubbish."

“We now have more legislation at our disposal to combat fly tipping but our greatest allies in this battle are members of the public."

“If you see fly-tipping taking place, please note down as many details as possible, including vehicle licence plate numbers and inform the Council.”
