Two stabbings took place in Manchester city centre within half and hour of each other on Sunday night (24 February).
At around 9.30pm officers were called near to Morrisons at Piccadilly Gardens to a report that a man had been stabbed in the back and his head.
The man, who is in his 40s, is currently at hospital and his injuries are not thought to be serious at this time.
In a second incident, a man in his 20s was attacked outside the Co-Op on High Street at about 9.56pm.
From witness accounts so far, it is believed several white men carried out the assault which left him suffering two stab wounds.
He is currently in hospital and again his injuries are not believed to be serious.
Officers from GMP’s City of Manchester division and specialist detectives are currently carrying out enquiries to establish exactly what has happened in both incidents and whether they are linked.
Detective Inspector Lisa Ogden, from GMP’s City of Manchester division, said: “We are doing everything we can understand the full circumstances surrounding both attacks and I must stress we are still in the very early stages of our enquiries.
“Attacks like this, so close to each other, are rare and there will be extra patrols in the area over the coming days so please approach an officer if you have any concerns.
“We’d urge anyone with any information to contact police immediately.”
