A Bradford teaching assistant has been jailed for 16 months after admitting offences involving a teenage girl he was responsible for supporting.
A teaching assistant has been jailed after admitting sexual offences involving a child he was meant to be looking after in Bradford.
Aasim Qureshi, 37, of High Park Crescent, Bradford, admitted three counts of sexual activity with a girl aged 15 or 16.
The offences took place at a care home in the Bradford District in 2021, where Qureshi was in a position of responsibility towards the young person.
At Bradford Crown Court on Friday 2 October, Qureshi was sentenced to 16 months in prison.
A personal statement from the victim was read to the court in which she described feeling betrayed and said the events and lengthy court process had significantly affected her life. She told the court she wanted to move forward but was still struggling with what had happened.
Detective Inspector Majahid Ashruff, from Bradford's Child Vulnerability Exploitation Team, described the case as a serious breach of trust involving a vulnerable child.
He praised the victim's courage in coming forward and said her account had been instrumental in bringing Qureshi to justice.
West Yorkshire Police says its Child Vulnerability Exploitation Team continues to work with partner agencies to safeguard children and investigate both child sexual and criminal exploitation.
Anyone with concerns about the exploitation of a child can contact police on 101 or use West Yorkshire Police's Live Chat service. In an emergency, call 999.
