A taxi driver who sexually molested a vulnerable passenger in the back of his car has been spared an immediate custodial sentence.
Leeds Crown Court heard that on October 9th last Mubashir Butt collected the woman who had been drinking from Brighouse and was driving her to Kirkburton when he is said to have suggested she didn’t have enough money to pay her fare.
The court was told that the woman did not entertain Butt’s suggestion she could pay in different ways and asked to be taken straight home.
35 year old Butt was caught on CCTV then pulling up, getting out of the driver’s seat and getting in the back of the taxi locking the car before trying to kiss the woman and touch her inappropriately .
His passenger screamed and when she repeatedly pushed him away he drove her home. Butt, of Tate Naylor Street, Dewsbury, admitted sexual assault
The court was told that he was his family’s main breadwinner and taking into account probation reports Butt was given a 12 month prison sentence suspended for 18 months with 15 days rehabilitation activity requirement and 100 hours unpaid work. He was also ordered to register as a sex offender for 10 years.
