Police are appealing for witnesses after a man and woman have both been left with broken ankles as a result of being robbed in Oldham.
At around 12:20am on Monday 4 July 2016, the victims, a 43-year-old woman and a 45-year-old man, were walking down Huddersfield Road when they were approached by a group of youths.
Both were forced to the ground and assaulted by members of the group, which was made up of boys and girls, before their phones and money was taken from them.
The youths then left in an unknown direction.
The victims were taken to hospital for treatment, with x-rays revealing that they both sustained broken ankles amongst other injuries. They remain in hospital for treatment with the woman requiring surgery.
Detective Constable Kate Dawson of GMP’s Oldham borough said “This was quite frankly a brutal attack on two unsuspecting members of the public who are now in hospital being treated for some very serious injuries.
“Our investigation is in the early stages and there are a number of lines of enquiry which we are following but I would like to appeal to the public for their help.
“Although it was rather late at night when the incident took place, we are hopeful that somebody may have witnessed something that can assist with our enquiries.
“If you think that you can help us then please contact police or Crimestoppers, anonymously.”
Anybody with information should contact police on 0161 856 9063 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
