Police are investigating after a fatal collision on the M61 motorway.
At around 3:30am on Monday 4 July 2016, police were called to junction 5 of the M61 motorway to reports of a collision between a pedestrian and a HGV.
Officers attended and found a 24-year-old woman who was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
It is believed the woman was travelling in a Ford Fiesta when she was involved in a minor collision with the central reservation, rendering the car unmovable.
When she got out of the car to check the damage, she was then involved in a collision with a HGV.
Officers remain at the scene and there is likely to be delays for some time so motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible.
Police Constable Paul Hailwood of the Greater Manchester Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “I would like to extend my most sincere and heartfelt condolences to the friends and family of this young woman.
“We currently have specially trained officers working to provide them with any support they need at this tragic time.
“We are appealing for anybody with information to please come forward and contact police.”
