Police appeal for witness after shots were fired in Oldham

Police are appealing for witnesses after shots were fired at a house in Oldham.

At about 10.30pm on the 15th of February a group of up to 12 men arrived at a house on Wellbank Close in two cars and were banging on the front door. They left, but returned shortly after 1am on the 16th of February, and shots were fired at the house causing damage to an upstairs window.

Police have launched an investigation and are appealing for anyone who saw two cars, a blue VW Golf and a dark Peugeot or possibly a Fiat, leaving the area shortly after 1am and turning into Meldrum Street and then Honeywell Lane.

The men are described as Asian and police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Detective Inspector Kenny Blain of GMP’s Oldham Borough said: “Fortunately, no one was hurt, but the woman, who was sleeping upstairs at the time was understandably terrified when shots were fired at the house. I want to reassure the community that a team of officers is working on this case and we have increased patrols in the area. We believe this was a targeted attack and I’m appealing to anyone who saw the incident or either vehicle in the area at the time to contact us on 101.
