A man has died in hospital following a hit and run in Long-sight.

The pedestrian, aged in his 40's, was struck by a car on Stockport Road, near the main shopping area, on Tuesday at about 3.45pm. The police have confirmed that the silver Peugeot involved in the collision failed to stop at the scene.

The victim was taken to the Manchester Royal Infirmary in an ambulance, where he later died. The victims next of kin have been made aware but the man has not yet been formally identified by the police.

Detectives have launched an investigation and are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any information to contact the police via 101.
