A 33-year-old Oxford man has been sentenced to 17 years in prison after being convicted of a series of serious and violent offences against a woman.
An Oxford man has been jailed for 17 years after being convicted of a series of serious offences against a woman following a Thames Valley Police investigation.
Rajeev Harikrishnan, 33, of Percy Street, Oxford, was sentenced at Oxford Crown Court on Friday 2 October.
A jury unanimously found Harikrishnan guilty of five counts of rape, as well as coercive and controlling behaviour, intentional strangulation, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and perverting the course of justice.
He had also pleaded guilty to two counts of breaching a restraining order.
Police said the victim had been subjected to a sustained period of physical, sexual and emotional abuse over a number of years.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Marisa Chamberlain described the offences as serious and violent and praised the victim for the courage and strength she showed in reporting what had happened and supporting the subsequent investigation.
She said the sentence reflected the severity of the offences and reiterated Thames Valley Police's commitment to supporting victims of domestic abuse and pursuing offenders.
Harikrishnan will now serve a total of 17 years in prison.
