Milton Keynes 12-Year-Old Scores in Top One Per Cent in Mensa Tests

A 12-year-old Milton Keynes boy who decided to take a Mensa test after being called “dumb” by another pupil has qualified for membership of the international high-IQ society.

A 12-year-old boy from Milton Keynes has been invited to join Mensa after achieving scores which placed him in the top one per cent in two assessments.

Zain Clark-Ali scored 159 in the Cattell III B test and 142 in the Culture Fair test, qualifying him for membership of the international high-IQ society.

Zain had previously passed the 11+ and 12+ selection tests, achieving scores of 141 and 140 respectively.

His mum, Lucy, said the decision to take the Mensa test came after another pupil had been calling Zain “dumb” and telling him he was stupid.

Rather than allowing the comments to discourage him, Zain researched IQ testing and Mensa himself before asking his parents whether he could take the test.

Lucy said the family was incredibly proud of him, particularly because taking the assessment had been entirely Zain's own idea.

His teachers had already recognised his academic ability, although his mum said he can sometimes find school frustrating because he does not always feel sufficiently challenged. The family is now considering educational options which could stretch him further.

Zain already has ambitions of becoming a pilot and has developed a keen interest in aviation. He has experienced a flight simulator and has even researched pilot training programmes and possible routes towards achieving his ambition.
