Man punched in face during Rochdale car robbery

Greater Manchester Police are appealing for information after a man was punched in the face during a car robbery in Rochdale.

At around 8.30pm on Saturday 13 October the victim left the Horse and Jockey pub on Well I'th Lane.

As he approached his vehicle near the junction of Clifton Street and Well Street, a white Vauxhall Astra, police say he noticed three Asian men surrounding him and the car.

They demanded the keys before one of the men hit the 53-year-old in the face with a black object.

The victim was knocked to the floor while the men stole the car. The car was later abandoned on Vivien Street.

The robbers are described as in their 20s and the attacker had a scarf or bandana covering the lower half of his face.

Detective Constable Kathryn Ross, from GMP’s Rochdale borough, said: “This man suffered severe bruising to his cheek and a black eye as a result of this violent robbery.

“They hurt an innocent man all for a car, only to dump it minutes later.

“We are doing everything we can to find these dangerous men and have been speaking to residents in the area who have been extremely helpful.

“I’d urge anyone who knows anything about this to please call police.”
