Man Jailed For Sexually Assaulting Victims In Their Own Homes

A man has been jailed for trespassing in properties and committing sexual offences against women.

Tahir Nazir of no fixed abode was sentenced at Manchester Crown Court to 12 years in prison after being found guilty of attempted rape, sexual assault and three counts of trespass with intent to commit a sexual offence.

On the morning of 1 November 2015, Nazir was seen on CCTV attempting to enter a number of different flats at New Lawrence House in Hulme.

He managed to gain access to a flat inside the building but was confronted by one of the occupants and hesitantly left when he was told that the police had been called.

Nazir then managed to gain entry to another flat in the building and snuck into the bedroom of a sleeping woman where he undressed himself and attempted to rape her before she fought him off.

He then left the flat and the victim told her flat mate what had happened and they locked the door of the property before they then heard somebody attempting to get inside.

In the early hours of the morning on Friday 6 November 2015, police were called to Derby Road, Fallowfield to reports that a man had been attempting to gain access to a property on the street.

Officers attended and found Nazir walking out of the garden of the property before he was arrested.

Following Nazir's arrest, DNA evidence was able to match him to a sexual assault which happened on 22 September 2015 in the Cathays area of Cardiff and he was subsequently arrested by South Wales Police.

On that occasion Nazir had gained entry to a property and sexually assaulted a woman as she lay in bed with a friend. He then left the room after being challenged by the woman's friend but, unbeknownst to the occupants, remained in the house before he was found a number of hours later.

Detective Constable Matt Gregory of GMP's City of Manchester Division said: "Not only did Tahir Nazir commit these horrendous offences against his victims but he did it in one of the most intrusive ways possible by attacking them in their own home.

"Nobody should have to worry about being attacked when they are in the sanctity of their own home, they should feel safe and comfortable."
