A man has been arrested following a fatal collision in Withington on Sunday 12th February 2017. Shortly before 10.15pm a blue Vauxhall Corsa was driving along Mauldeth Road when it was in a collision with two cyclists near to the junction of Wellington Road.
One of the cyclists, a man in his 20s sadly died at the scene while another man also in his 20s was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
An investigation was launched by the Serious Collision Investigation Unit and a 61-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He remains in police custody.
Senior Investigating Officer, Sergeant Lee Westhead, said “We are currently investigating the full circumstances of this collision. I would firstly like to offer my sincere condolences to the family of the young man who died. It is key we now try and establish exactly what happened and I would urge anyone who saw the collision to please call the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 101.
