#LoveBradford World Record Breaking Attempt

Bradford Council staff are inviting school children, local businesses, organisations and people across the district to join them in a ‘#LoveBradford’ world record breaking attempt at Bradford’s City Park on Thursday, 15 September 2016.

The world record attempt is to create the ‘longest chain of people making heart-shaped hand gestures’, symbolising friendliness, diversity, positivity and everything that is great about the Bradford district.

The event is expected to attract at least 2,000 people – the number needed to break the current world record. It will also raise money for the Lord Mayor’s Appeal, which this year is supporting the charity YoungMinds, ‘the voice for young people’s mental health and wellbeing’.

The #LoveBradford event on Thursday, 15 September will start with registration at 11.30am and entertainment from about 12 noon. The world record attempt will happen at 1pm, with the chain of people weaving around the mirror pool area in City Park.

The Lord Mayor of Bradford, Coun Geoff Reid, said: "Everyone is invited to take part in our extraordinary ‘Love Bradford’ world record attempt.

"Our interconnected chain of people will celebrate the Bradford district’s energy and enterprising spirit, bringing people of all ages and backgrounds together, raising positive aspirations and showing how proud we are of our district.

"Please come along to enjoy the fun and join a celebration of the people, history and culture of this amazing place.”

At least 2,000 people are needed to beat the current world record of 1,936 people, currently held by a steel production business in Japan.

Everyone is welcome but you must sign up in advance to take part. Details are on the Council’s webpage: www.bradford.gov.uk/lovebradford. Everyone who takes part is encouraged to make a donation or raise money for the Lord Mayor’s Appeal.

The event also coincides with the World Curry Festival - an event that brings people from all backgrounds together to celebrate their love of food, culture and entertainment.

You can also join in the fun the online, using the hashtag #LoveBradford on Twitter to share pictures or comments about why you love the Bradford district.
