Huddersfield sex offender jailed after abusing teenage boy

A Huddersfield sex offender has been jailed after admitting serious offences against a vulnerable teenage boy more than a decade ago.

A Kirklees sex offender has been jailed after abusing a vulnerable teenager in Huddersfield more than a decade ago.

Zana Adil Mohammed, aged 48, from Huddersfield, was jailed at Leeds Crown Court on Thursday 9 April after pleading guilty to sexual offences, including sexual activity with a child, committed in 2011. He was sentenced to 62 months in custody for five offences of sexual activity with a child and four counts of making indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs of children.

West Yorkshire Police said the offending took place in Huddersfield in December 2011 and involved a young teenage boy, who later came forward to report what had happened. Mohammed fled the country during the early stages of the investigation, with enquiries later establishing he was in Iraq.

Police said officers became aware in October 2025 that Mohammed was planning to return to the UK and he was arrested on arrival at Birmingham International Airport on 16 October. He was then charged and appeared before Leeds Magistrates’ Court on 18 October.

Detective Constable Leanne Sanderson of the Kirklees Child Safeguarding Unit said the victim had shown a great deal of courage in reporting the abuse and supporting the investigation.
