It is claimed lives are being put at risk in Bradford district after a third of private hire vehicles reportedly fail safety checks.
Stuart Hastings, chairman of Keighley Private Hire Association, says that of the vehicles being called in by the council for testing, at 24 hours’ notice, 38 per cent are failing – with “serious faults” being found in more than a fifth.
Bradford Council claims pass rates are improving, but admits the situation gives “cause for concern”.
