David Ward, the former MP for Bradford East from 2010 to 2015, has decided to run as an independent candidate for the upcoming General Election.
He has made the decision following a suspension from the Liberal Democrats, due to claims of anti-Semitism.
Mr Ward is standing to clear his name from such claims and maintains that Israel and its supporters were behind his suspension, because of his support for the Palestinian cause.
He said: “I think it should be the decision of the electorate in Bradford East that decides whether I should be the MP for Bradford East and I don’t think that decision should be made by, in effect, a foreign government.”
