Consultation Starts For New Bradford City Centre Cycle Route

Consultation is being launched on Monday, 4 July, to get people's views on a new cycle route that links the Bradford city centre to the Canal Road Greenway and Shipley.

The planned 2.3km cycle route would involve building a cycle track that is physically segregated from traffic and pedestrians

to provide a safe link for cyclists between the growing residential areas along Canal Road and businesses in the city centre.

This proposed scheme would introduce some changes to the movement of traffic and to on-street parking which people need to take a look at.

People can say if they support the scheme or not and suggest changes to the design.

The comments will be fed back into a report being presented to Bradford Council's Executive in September. The Executive will consider those views and will authorise the advertising of Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs).

These TROs will be subjected to a further consultation period in October before they are confirmed or amended in December.

Residents and businesses on the cycle route will soon receive a letter and leaflet explaining the proposed changes, with an accompanying map.

Coun Alex Ross-Shaw, Bradford Council's Executive Member for Regeneration, Planning and Transport, said: "The Greenway has already proven to be popular on Canal Road and it's fantastic if we can extend it all the way into Bradford city centre, allowing people to cycle or walk from Shipley right into Bradford.

"This consultation is about the changes being proposed to deliver the scheme, so it's important that people have the opportunity to make their views known."

Consultation events will take place on Wednesday, 20 July, at Bolton Woods Community Centre, between 11am- 2pm, and 4pm - 7pm.

People can also comment on the scheme online by leaving feedback on the map at www.cyclecityconnect.co.uk/projects/canal-road-bradford

Comments can be emailed to cityconnect@westyorks-ca.gov.uk or posted to CityConnect, West Yorkshire Combined Authority, Wellington House, 40-50 Wellington Street, Leeds. LS1 2DE.

The consultation period ends on 29 July.

Information about the proposed scheme can be found on the CityConnect website at www.cyclecityconnect.co.uk and there will be updates throughout the consultation on twitter @CityConnect1 and facebook cyclecityconnect.
