A best man who left a female wedding guest with life-changing injuries has been jailed.
Chris Deegan, 29 and from Rochdale, was put under arrest hours after making his speech for the married couple, along with his 27-year-old partner, Jodie Hardy.
Believed to be fuelled by alcohol and cocaine, Deegan launched an unprovoked attack against a 38-year-old male guest in which he bit his ear and continued to hit the man even when the victim was unconscious.
A 35-year-old woman guest bravely tried to help during the attack. Jodie Hardy grabbed the woman by the hair and dragged her across the room for four metres.
Deegan then kicked the woman on the head before stamping on her face.
The victim spent four months on a liquid diet in the aftermath of the attack, the effects of which have been ‘life-changing’, a Manchester Crown Court sentencing hearing was told.
Deegan was jailed for seven years and two months after admitting grievous bodily harm against the female guest and assault causing actual bodily harm against the male guest.
Jodie Hardy was handed a four-month sentence after she admitted causing actual bodily harm.
