Barnsley Man Jailed After Shop Worker Stabbed During £50 Robbery

A Barnsley man has been jailed after a shop worker was stabbed more than 20 times during a robbery in which around £50 was stolen.

Alex Hill, 27, of Balk Lane, Barnsley, entered a shop armed with a knife in May 2026.

During the robbery, Hill stabbed a shop worker more than 20 times before stealing approximately £50 and fleeing. The victim survived his injuries.

Police launched a manhunt and released a CCTV image of Hill to the public. Following the appeal, an officer located him while he was on his way to hand himself in at a police station.

Hill appeared at Sheffield Crown Court on 9 June, where he pleaded guilty to wounding with intent, robbery and possession of a bladed article.

He returned to the same court on 18 September for sentencing.

Hill was handed an eight-year sentence, comprising six years in prison followed by three years on licence.
