57 year old Mike Bennet, and his 50 year old wife Julie Bennet, made headlines when an image was released of them holding hands during their last moments together.
Mr Bennet died on 6th February he had been fighting a brain tumour since 2013 and had been nursed at home by Mrs Bennet and their children until his wife became too ill to care for him.
Mrs Bennet, was diagnosed in May last year with cancer which began in the liver and kidneys and then spread to her other organs. She passed away 5 days after her husband on the 11th of February.
Their children, Luke, 21, Hannah, 18, and Oliver, 13, released the picture of their terminally ill parents, prompting an outpouring of support from friends, relatives and well-wishers. More than £275,000 has been raised in total for the children, which they hope to use towards bills and putting themselves through university.
The eldest of the trio Luke said “We are so overwhelmed with the generosity of all people who have been supporting us. We would like to give some of the money to charities like cancer research - there are other people that need it more than us."
