6. Our Lawful Bases for Processing

Under UK data protection law, we must have a lawful reason for processing personal information. Depending on the circumstances, we may rely on:

  • Consent – where you have actively agreed to a particular use of your information, such as certain marketing communications or non-essential cookies.
  • Contract – where processing is necessary to enter into or perform an agreement with you.
  • Legal obligation – where we need to process information to comply with a legal or regulatory requirement.
  • Legitimate interests – where processing is necessary for our legitimate business interests or those of a third party and those interests are not overridden by your rights and interests.

Our legitimate interests may include operating a commercial radio station, managing relationships with listeners, advertisers and suppliers, improving our services, maintaining security, promoting our services and protecting our legal and commercial interests.

Where we rely on consent, you may withdraw that consent at any time. Withdrawal does not affect processing carried out lawfully before consent was withdrawn.

7. Marketing & Listener Club Communications

If you join our Listener Club, subscribe to communications or otherwise request updates from us, we may send you station news, competitions, events, offers, promotions and other relevant communications.

Communications may occasionally contain advertising, sponsorship or promotional material from Sunrise Radio or selected commercial partners. We do not provide advertisers with unrestricted access to our Listener Club database merely because their advertisement appears within a Sunrise Radio communication.

You can unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time by using the unsubscribe link contained within the email or by contacting us. We may retain a limited suppression record to ensure that your preference continues to be respected.

8. Cookies & Similar Technologies

Our websites and digital services may use cookies, pixels, local storage and similar technologies.

These technologies may be used for purposes including:

  • keeping our websites and services functioning correctly;
  • remembering preferences;
  • security and fraud prevention;
  • measuring website and app usage;
  • analytics and performance monitoring; and
  • advertising and campaign measurement where enabled.

Cookies that are strictly necessary for operation of the service may be used without consent where permitted by law.

Where consent is required for analytics, advertising or other non-essential cookies, we will seek that consent through our cookie controls. You can change your preferences through the available cookie settings and/or your browser settings.

9. Advertising & Third-Party Content

Our websites, apps, newsletters and other services may contain advertising, sponsored content or links to third-party websites and services.

Where advertising technology is used, advertisers or advertising service providers may use cookies or similar technologies where legally permitted and, where required, subject to your consent.

Third-party websites and services operate under their own privacy policies and terms. Sunrise Radio is not responsible for the privacy practices, content or security of independent third-party websites simply because we provide a link to them.

10. Who We May Share Information With

We do not sell personal information to advertisers.

We may share personal information where appropriate with trusted organisations that help us operate our business and services, including:

  • website, hosting and content-management providers;

Where organisations process personal information on our behalf, we require appropriate contractual and confidentiality arrangements where required by law.

11. International Transfers

Some technology, hosting, analytics, communications or other service providers used by Sunrise Radio may process information outside the United Kingdom. Where a restricted international transfer of personal information takes place, we will use an appropriate lawful transfer mechanism or safeguard as required by applicable UK data protection law, such as applicable adequacy regulations or approved contractual safeguards.

12. How Long We Keep Your Information

We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, including any legal, accounting, regulatory, contractual or reporting requirements.

The period may vary depending on the type of information involved. When deciding how long to retain information, we consider:

  • the purpose for which the information is held;
  • the nature and sensitivity of the information;
  • whether there is an ongoing relationship with you;
  • applicable legal, tax, contractual and regulatory requirements;
  • the need to resolve disputes or establish or defend legal claims; and
  • whether the information can instead be securely deleted or anonymised.

Listener Club information will generally be retained while you remain subscribed, subject to any information we need to retain after unsubscribing in order to respect your preferences or meet legal obligations.

13. How We Protect Your Information

We use appropriate technical and organisational measures designed to protect personal information against unauthorised or unlawful access, use, disclosure, alteration, loss or destruction.

Measures may include access controls, secure systems, encryption where appropriate, password protection, staff controls, secure communications, backups and appropriate arrangements with service providers.

No internet transmission or electronic storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure. You should therefore also take reasonable care when transmitting personal information electronically.

Some Sunrise Radio competitions, events or activities may be suitable for children or young people. Where we knowingly collect personal information relating to a child, we will take appropriate measures having regard to the child's age, the nature of the activity and applicable legal requirements. Additional terms or parental/guardian consent may be required for particular activities.

  • the right to data portability where applicable;
  • the right to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent; and
  • rights relating to certain automated decision-making where applicable.
You have the right to object at any time to processing of your personal information for direct marketing purposes.

To exercise any applicable right, contact us at info@sunriseradio.fm . We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.

17. Complaints

If you have concerns about how Sunrise Radio has handled your personal information, please contact us first so that we have an opportunity to investigate and respond.

You also have the right to make a complaint to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's data protection regulator. Further information is available at ico.org.uk .

18. Third-Party Websites & Social Media

Sunrise Radio websites and communications may contain links or embedded content from social networks, streaming services and other third parties. Your use of those services is governed by the privacy policies and terms of the relevant provider. We encourage you to review those policies before providing personal information to a third party.

19. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may amend this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to our services, technology, business practices or legal requirements.

The latest version will be published on this page together with the date it was last updated. Where a material change affects how we use existing personal information, we will take appropriate steps to bring that change to the attention of affected individuals where required.
