Inspirational Hayley Simmonds wins Commonwealth time trial medal

England’s Hayley Simmonds broke into tears after claiming bronze in the women’s road cycling time trial at the Commonwealth Games on Australia’s Gold Coast.

The 29-year-old’s inspirational story has taken her on a remarkable journey – switching from rowing to cycling to lose weight and shedding 45kg.

Australia's Katrin Garfoot produced a dominant display to win gold, with Linda Villumsen of New Zealand picking up silver.

Scotland's Katie Archibald, who won gold in the individual pursuit on the track, finished fourth.

In the men's race, England's Harry Tanfield joined his brother Charlie as a Commonwealth Games medallist with silver.
