England women stun Scotland in Euros opener

The England women’s team put on a dominant display to stun Scotland in their Women’s European Championship opener.

Jodie Taylor scored a hat-trick in a performance which humiliated their rivals 6-0.

In the other Group D game, Spain beat Portugal 2-0.

England’s players have spoken of a gruelling training regime enforced by coach Mark Sampson but the pain has paid dividends.

The Three Lions have thrown down the marker to become one of the favourites to win the tournament overall. They currently stand fifth in the world rankings, 16 places above Scotland.

England will face the Spaniards on Sunday and will see if they can carry their form through for the rest of the group stage.
