‘Living wills’ allowed for terminally ill in India

The Supreme Court in India has allowed ‘living wills’ for the terminally ill.

The landmark ruling means passive euthanasia can be a possibility for those in a vegetative state to hasten a person’s death.

A living will sets out a patient's wishes regarding how they want to be treated if they are seriously ill.

It remains unclear, however, how courts could guarantee that living wills were not drafted by patients under coercion.
