‘Indian spy’ receives death penalty in Pakistan

An Indian man detained in Pakistan on espionage charges has been sentenced with the death penalty.

Kulbhushan Jadhav, a former navy officer, was seen in a video released shortly after his arrest admitting that he had been involved in spying.

Delhi has confirmed that the man is an Indian citizen but has rejected Islamabad’s spying claims.

Mr Jadhav was tried in a military court in Pakistan, which did not give a date of execution. This is an incident in a long line of diplomatic issues between the two countries, including a flare up in November when Pakistan withdrew six officials from Delhi after they were outed as suspected spies by India.
