India Supreme Court blocks appeal to block Bollywood film

India’s Supreme Court has rejected an appeal to block the global release of a Bollywood film.

Hindu and caste groups have held protests across India against the release of Padmavati, which tells the story of a 14th Century Hindu queen and a Muslim ruler, due to an alleged romantic scene between the two characters.

The producers behind the film have denied such a scene exists.

The lawyer who brought the appeal to the court previously had another attempt to ban the release of the film in India rejected.
