Eight people have been killed and many injured during protests at a by-election in Kashmir.
Protesters clashed with police, who attempted to disperse the crowd by firing bullets and shotgun pellets.
It is also reported that two schools and a polling booth were set on fire by protesters, who retaliated against the police by pelting them with stones.
The protesters took to the streets to oppose the Indian administration of the region, which is contested with Pakistan.
