Newsroom Special - Offer or ask?... the eternal struggle of public transport

    Newsroom Specials

    Tuesday, 12 February 2019 - 4 minutes

We’ve all probably been on either side of this classic public transport debacle. Maybe you’ve wondered whether you’re being insensitive to someone by presuming they need a seat on the bus or train, or maybe you don’t even notice someone who does desperately need to sit down. On the other hand, maybe you’ve needed to take some weight off your feet but didn’t want to impose on someone else. So why are we not offering up our seats to those in need?

New research, commissioned by Anchor Hanover, England’s largest provider of care and housing for older people, suggests that the turmoil of public transport etiquette continues to rumble on, which is cutting off this vital lifeline for older people and putting them at risk of isolation.

The research has been released as part of Anchor Hanover's ‘Standing Up 4 Sitting Down’ campaign.

To tell us more about the campaign we were joined by Derya Filiz from Anchor Hanover.
