Newsroom Special - Micro-plastics in the oceans
Newsroom Specials
Thursday, 21 March 2019 - 5 minutes
Plastic pollution is having a detrimental effect on the world's marine organisms, with an estimated 322 million tonnes of plastic produced annually. More than five trillion plastic pieces weighing over 250,000 tonnes are currently floating on the sea's surface.
With mankind needing to take sole responsibility for the spoilt sea bed amongst other environmental issues, it is our responsibility to implement change sooner rather than later. The question is, how?
Sky News has broadcast the first live TV news bulletins from under the sea to draw attention to the plight of the world's oceans. The aim of this was to hopefully not only unveil a search for evidence of how we – as humans – are changing what’s going on in this crucial part of our world but also inspire those to make positive changes to prevent further damage.
To tell us more we were joined by Emily Penn from Sky Ocean Rescue.
