Newsroom Special - Love letters still trump social media

In today’s fast paced world, even Cupid himself would be bewildered as to how best ask the object of your affection… “will you be mine?”. However, the answer may in fact be far simpler than the modern dating scene might suggest.

New research from Royal Mail found that people are overwhelmingly in favour of traditional love letters, cards or notes. In fact, a heartfelt and handwritten Valentine’s message is three times more likely to secure a date than a swipe, like or email. Most people (65%) agree that sending a text or social media message is not a suitable substitute
for a Valentine’s Day card or love letter.

To tell us more about the research and to share her valentine's tips we were joined by Nichi Hodgson, broadcaster and author of ‘The Curious History of Dating: from Jane Austen to Tinder’.
