Newsroom Special - Blind and partially sighted feel 'left out of everyday life'
Newsroom Specials
Tuesday, 19 March 2019 - 5 minutes
A new report ‘By My Side’ released by the charity Guide Dogs lifts the lid on the realities of everyday life with sight loss. It raises awareness for greater understanding from wider society, to foster genuine inclusion for the vision
impaired (VI) community.
The research highlights six in 10 (60%) blind and partially sighted people believe that society has ‘little understanding’ of the challenges they face in their daily lives.
Nearly as many (58%) feel socially isolated and over a quarter (27%) say they have been left out of milestone moments such as births or marriages because of their sight loss.
Clive Wood, who was born with sight loss, joined us to discuss a new podcast series released by Guide Dogs and to tell us more about the By My Side report.
