Water crisis looms in Pakistan’s Punjab region

A water crisis is looming in parts of Pakistan’s Punjab region following reports that the water level in Khanpur Dam has dropped to just 20 feet above zero.

The reservoir supplies Islamabad and Rawalpindi, with authorities in the latter city expecting to be asked to consider water rationing.

The dam authorities blame a massive decrease in the inflow of water due to prevailing hot and dry weather, with no major rainfall in the catchment areas.
