The leader of the opposition in Pakistan has been granted bail in a corruption case.
Shahbaz Sharif was arrested on 5 October over what is being called the Ashiana Housing Scam. It is alleged Sharif - leader of the PML-N - awarded contracts to favourites, including a Rs14 billion contract to Lahore Casa Developer.
The former Punjab chief minister has been charged with misuse of authority by unlawfully assuming powers of the board of directors of the Punjab Land Development Company (PLDC).
The Lahore High Court granted Sharif bail following a request from the defendant’s team. The request is understood to have asked for bail on 30 grounds, including for medical reasons.
