Prime Minister Narendra Modi chose to celebrate Diwali with India’s soldiers.
The PM flew to Srinaga and head to the Gurez Sector in Kashmir's Bandipora district this morning, 19 October, to spend time with troops.
It is becoming something of a tradition for the nation’s leader. Last Diwali he spent celebrating with security personnel in Himachal Pradesh and in 2015 he travelled to the border near to Amritsar to visit troops there.
This year the government has given what they call a “Diwali gift” to the armed forces, drastically reducing satellite phone call charges so they can call home for longer.
