The parents of Aarushi Talwar have been cleared of her murder on appeal.
Dentists Rajesh and Nupur Talwar were jailed for life in 2013 when they were convicted of murdering their 14-year-old daughter and their Nepalese servant, Hemraj Banjade, in 2008 in the city of Noida in Utter Pradesh state.
Judges arrived at the decision to free the couple from prison immediately based on circumstantial evidence as key forensic evidence had been lost during two flawed investigations.
The trial court claimed the federal Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) which investigated the murders had failed to prove beyond reasonable doubt that the Talwars had killed their daughter.
It is not clear whether the CBI will appeal against the judgement.
