Nawaz Sharif and Maryam given parole for Kulsoom funeral

The former prime minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam have been issued parole to attend the funeral of wife and mother Kulsoom Nawaz.

The three-time first lady died in London on Tuesday 11 September at the age of 68. She was diagnosed with cancer in August 2017 and suffered a heart attack on 14 June.

Her husband and daughter have both been jailed in Pakistan after returning to the country to face corruption charges.

They have been released on a 12-hour parole, which is likely to be extended until the burial.
